UMW Women's Soccer Falls to Christopher Newport, 3-2, in Rainy Saturday Tilt

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision to visiting Christopher Newport University on Saturday at a rainy Battleground. The Eagles fall to 6-5 overall, and 1-1 in Capital Athletic Conference play.

The Captains took the lead at 16:33 on a Gabby Gillis score, but the Eagles answered at 29:49 on a Lizzie Weast goal, assisted by Marisa Madaras. CNU took the lead to halftime, scoring with 1:48 remaining in the half on a goal from Victoria Perry.

After the second half remained scoreless for the majority of play, the Captains scored at 86:50 on a goal from Lindsay Mondoch. UMW answered with a goal 38 seconds later from freshman Kaitlyn Higgins, but couldn't find the tying tally.

CNU led in shots, 15-7, while UMW held a 7-6 edge in corner kicks. Freshman goalie Haley Randall made seven saves for the Eagles, while Carly Maglio had one stop for Christopher Newport.

The Eagles will be back in action again on Wednesday when they host York College of pa. in a Capital Athletic Conference match starting at 4:00 p.m.
