Freshman Marisa Madaras scored a pair of goals to lead the University of Mary Washington women's soccer team to a 4-1 victory at Wesley College in both teams' Capital Athletic Conference opener on Saturday night in Dover, Del. The Eagles improve to 6-4 on the season.

UMW jumped out to a 1-0 advantage at 12:56, when Leah Roth scored on a Maryfay Jackson assist. Leading 1-0, the Eagles erupted for a pair of scores in the final five minutes of the half. Madaras scored at 40:40 unassisted, and then Emily Arbisi scored with just 11 seconds left before intermission.

Wesley found the scoreboard at 58:48 on a penalty kick, but the Eagles and Madaras would return the lead to three with a score 10 minutes later on a Lauren Brower pass.

The Eagles led in shots, 27-7, and in corner kicks, 8-3. Haley Randall had one save in 55 minutes and Madeline Duvall played 35 minutes for the Eagles in goal. Wesley had two keepers combine for nine saves.

Mary Washington will be back in action next Saturday when they host Christopher Newport University at 1:00 p.m. in another CAC showdown. Following the men's game on Saturday, the UMW Philharmonic Orchestra will perform a postgame concert.
