The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to third-ranked Messiah College on Wednesday evening at the Battleground. The Eagles fall to 4-3 on the season.

The game remained scoreless for much of the first half, but Messiah got on the scoreboard at 32:05 on a penalty kick from Nikki Elsaesser. The Falcons added an insurance tally at 39:51, as Kate Shults found Olivia Snare on a through ball, with Snare scoring to give Messiah a 2-0 lead heading to halftime.

In the second half, the lone goal came from Elsaesser, who scored from the right endline on a difficult angle into the far side netting.

Messiah led in shots, 26-2, and in corner kicks, 7-1. UMW freshman Haley Randall had nine saves for the Eagles, while Audra Larson had two saves for Messiah.

The Eagles will be back in action again on Saturday when they visit Goucher College at 1:00 p.m.
