UMW Women's Soccer Tops Elmira, 4-1, on Sunday in New York

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team scored a pair of goals in each half to top Elmira College, 4-1, on the road on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles improve to 2-1 on the season.

UMW got on the board at 19:12, as freshman Christioana Meyers scored on a Michelle Gibbons pass from 25 yards out. The Eagles took momentum into halftime, as freshman Ellie Maston scored on a Grace Friedl assist with 1:36 remaining in the half.

In the second, the Eagles upped the lead to 3-0 as freshman Marisa Madaras scored on a Gibbons assist on a through ball at 67:25. Senior Lizzie Weast scored on a Meghan Turney assist at 79:11 on a one-on-one opportunity. Elmira spoiled the shutout with a score from Sara Kazerouni at 85:06.

The Eagles dominated in shots, 27-7, and led in corner kicks, 4-1. Freshman Haley Randall made one stop in 70 minutes for the Eagles in goal, with Sara Armor manning the nets for the final 20 minutes. Elmira's Gabe Carmona made nine saves, and Elmira also had a team save as well.

Mary Washington will return to action on Wednesday when they visit Randolph-Macon College at 5:00 p.m.
