UMW Women's Soccer Drops 1-0 Overtime Heartbreaker at CNU on Wednesday Night

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 overtime decision at Christopher Newport University on Wednesday night in Newport News, Va. The Eagles fall to 8-6-2 overall, and 2-4-1 in Capital Athletic Conference action.

After a scoreless regulation, it was the Eagles who had the first crack at ending the contest, but their shot moments into the extra period hit squarely off the crossbar. The Captains found the game winner at 97:39 on a goal from Kira Warner.

The Captains led in shots, 17-11, and in corner kicks, 7-2. UMW senior goalie Charlotte Owens had 10 saves, while Haley Casanova had four stops for CNU.

The Eagles will return to action on Saturday when they host Penn State Harrisburg for Homecoming at 1:00 p.m. A special ceremony honoring UMW's members of the CAC Silver Anniversary Team will take place prior to kickoff.
