Lockley's Late Score Lifts UMW Women's Soccer to 1-1 Tie at York

Senior Sam Lockley scored the game-tying score with just nine seconds left in regulation to lift the University of Mary Washington women's soccer team to a 1-1 tie at York College on Saturday in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Eagles move to 7-4-2 overall and 1-2-1 in CAC play.

The Spartans scored 12:26 into the game to take the early lead, and made that advantage stand until the waning seconds, when the Spartans were whistled for a red card in the final minute. On the restart, junior Lizzie Weast found Lockley for the tying tally. Neither team could score despite several shots through the extra periods.

York led in shots, 20-10, and in corner kicks, 6-0. UMW senior goalie Charlotte Owens made five saves for the Eagles, while Melanie Glessner had two saves for York.

The Eagles will return to action on Tuesday, when they host Southern Virginia University at 4:00 p.m. in another CAC match.
