UMW Women's Soccer Opens CAC Play With 3-1 Win at Marymount

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team jumped out to a 3-1 halftime advantage and held on through a scoreless second half for a 3-1 win at Marymount University in both teams' Capital Athletic Conference opener on Saturday in Arlington. UMW moves to 7-2-1 on the season.

Ther Eagles scored first as junior Jessica Bednarcik scored in the 10th minute, but the Saints were able to draw even midway through the first half on a goal from Chloe McAulliffe. The Eagles took the lead for good less than a minute later on a score from Taylor Decker, assisted by Leah Roth, and added an insurance score at 36:07 on a goal from Anna Manser.

The teams battled to a scoreless second half. For the game, the Eagles led in shots, 22-3, and in corner kicks, 3-0. Senior goalie Charlotte Owens had one save in goal for UMW, while Holly Wenger had eight saves for Marymount.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday when they host St. Mary's College in another CAC contest starting at 4:00 p.m.
