Gibbons' Goal in 90th Minute Helps UMW Women's Soccer to 1-1 Tie at Meredith

Junior Michelle Gibbons scored her first goal of the season with just 19 seconds remaining in regulation, lifting the University of Mary Washington women's soccer team to a 1-1 tie at Meredith University on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles move to 4-1-1 overall.

Meredith scored just before halftime on a goal from Megan Amanatides at 41:41, as the Angels held a 1-0 lead at halftime. The Eagles were unable to find a tying score until Gibbons scored unassisted at 89:41.

Neither team could find a winning score through two scoreless overtime periods. The Eagles led in shots, 19-13, while Meredith had a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. UMW sophomore goalie Sara Armor had seven saves for the Eagles, while Jaisa Losch had nine saves for Meredith.

The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Randolph-Macon College at 4:30 p.m.
