Manser Scores Pair to Lead UMW Women's Soccer Past Ferrum, 3-0

Freshman Anna Manser scored a pair of goals to lead the University of Mary Washington women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Ferrum College on Monday at a steamy Battleground. The Eagles improve to 2-0 on the season.

Manser opened the scoring at 22:32, taking a through ball from junior Lizzie Weast and ripping a shot into goal from the left. UMW, who held an 11-0 advantage in shots in the first half, led 1-0 at intermission.

The Eagles continued to dominate possession in the second half, posting a 15-0 advantage in shots in the second frame. The first to find the nets was sophomore Meghan Turney, who headed in a Taylor Decker corner kick at 67:20 to up the UMW lead to 2-0. Manser scored again less than a minute later on an Anna Brauch assist to cap the scoring at 68:12.

The Eagles led in corner kicks, 11-0. Charlotte Owens and Sara Armor split time in goal in gaining the shutout. Ferrum's Caitlyn Deaton had 11 saves for the Panthers.

Mary Washington will return to action on Saturday when they host Coast Guard Academy at 12:30 p.m. as part of the UMW Soccer Classic.
