UMW Women's Soccer Falls at St. Mary's in OT in CAC Opener, 1-0

Despite holding a significant shot advantage, the University of Mary Washington women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision in overtime at St. Mary's College on Saturday in both teams' Capital Athletic Conference opener. The Eagles fall to 4-5 on the year.

The Eagle offense found many attempts early and often, outshooting the Seahawks, 10-1, in the first half, and 11-5 in the second. But St. Mary's outshot the Eagles, 2-0, in overtime,including the game winner just 1:31 into extra play on a score from Gillian Sawyer on an assist from Lexy McCarty.

Mary Washington led in shots, 21-8, and in corner kicks, 4-1. Junior Alyssa Goodwin had five saves in Mary Washington's goal, while Sara Eaton had eight stops for St. Mary's.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday, October 2, when they host Catholic University at 4:00 p.m.
