Reynolds, Bednarcik Lead UMW Women's Soccer Past Randolph-Macon, 4-2

Sophomore Jessica Bednarcik and senior Erin Reynolds each scored twice to lead the University of Mary Washington women's soccer team to a 4-2 win over Randolph-Macon College on Tuesday at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 4-4 on the year.

It was the Yellow Jackets who scored first, as Ellie Linkous scored in the fifth minute, but the Eagles answered quickly, as Bednarcik tied the score at 6:30 on an assist from Ashley Stephens. UMW took the lead in the 11th minute, as Reynolds scored on a pass from Leah Roth to give the Eagles a 2-1 edge.

That lead would not last, as the Yellow Jackets and Linkous scored again in the 26th minute, and the game remained tied until halftime. Both defenses tightened in the second half, but Reynolds scored what proved to be the game winner at 81:27 on another Roth helper, and Bednarcik put the matter to rest with a score at 88:33, unassisted.

"We responded in the second half", said UMW head coach Corey Hewson. "After playing flat in the first half, we connected and played more inspired in the second."

The Eagles held a 24-7 advantage in shots, and a 9-1 lead in corner kicks. Freshman Sara Armor had one save in goal for UMW.

Mary Washington will return to action on Saturday when they open Capital Athletic Conference play at St. Mary's College of Md. with a 1:00 p.m. kickoff.
