The UMW women's soccer team jumped ahead, but fell, 2-1, on Friday night in Winchester. Sophomore Lizzie Weast scored UMW's lone goal in defeat.

After 27 minutes of scoreless play, Weast scored to put the Eagles ahead, 1-0, on an unassisted tally. The Hornets tallied the tying score at 40:03, as Danielle Burris scored.

Burris then scored the lone goal of the second half, finding the eventual game winner at 50:41. The Hornets led in shots, 11-6, and in corner kicks, 5-1. Alyssa Goodwin made six saves in goal for the Eagles.

"We had the match in our grasp, but let it slip away", said head coach Corey Hewson. "We need to clean up our mistakes and work to be more consistent, and then it will come."

The Eagles will return to action on Sunday when they visit Ferrum College at 1:00 pm.
