Bednarcik's Hat Trick Leads UMW Women's Soccer to 3-2 Win at Marymount

Freshman Jessica Bednarcik scored three times in the first half to lead the University of Mary Washington women's soccer team to a 3-2 win at Marymount University on Saturday in Arlington. The Eagles improve to 10-1-2 on the season.

The Saints opened the scoring in the seventh minute on a score by Katie Hamelin. The Eagles answered back, as Bednarcik stormed the goal with scores at 11:07 on an assist from freshman Adrian Newcomb, again at 16:59 on feeds from Newcomb and Erin Reynolds, and less than a minute later at 17:44 on another Newcomb pass.

Marymount capped the scoring in the 22nd minute, as all of the game's scoring came in the opening quarter of the game. The Eagles led in shots, 26-8, and in corner kicks, 6-1. Sophomore goalie Charlotte Owens had three saves for the Eagles.

Mary Washington will return to action on Tuesday when they host St. Mary's College at 4:00 p.m. in a key Capital Athletic Conference match.
