UMW Women's Soccer Blanks Methodist, 2-0

Sophomore Kelsey Carter (Richmond, Va., Mills Godwin) scored on an Erin Reynolds (Oakton, Va., Oakton) assist 3:09 into the game, and the Eagle defense made it stand up in a 2-0 victory over Methodist University on Saturday at the Battleground. The Eagles, who also received a goal from junior Excy Herrera (Alexandria, Va., Thomas Edison), improve to 3-0 on the season.

Carter scored on UMW's first shot of the game, and came via a header from a cross from Reynolds, who chipped the ball across the box from the left side. Herrera scored at 64:52, as sophomore Madison Hanley (Virginia Beach, Va., First Colonial) sent a cross from the right side, which Herrera booted into goal form 18 yards out.

The Eagles led in shots, 20-4, and had nine corner kicks to six for the Monarchs. Tina Brehm (Springfield, Va., Robert E. Lee) earned the shutout for the Eagles, making four saves, while Methodist's Sara Altman had 13 stops.

Mary Washington will host Alvernia College on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
