Rader's Four Second Half Goals Lead UMW Women's Soccer Past EMU

Sophomore midfielder Tina Rader (Springfield, Va., West Springfield) scored four second half goals, including three in the last 2:35, to lead the University of Mary Washington women's soccer team to a 6-0 victory over Eastern Mennonite University on Monday at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 2-0 on the season.

UMW opened the scoring as the game started in a torrential downpour, as Carly Davis (Miller Place, N.Y., Miller Place) scored on UMW's first shot, at 9:04. Following intermission, Amy Olson (Crofton, Md., Arundel) scored on a Caitlyn Denkler (Arlington, Va., Yorktown) assist at 62:20, and Rader scored her first tally on a Denkler cross at 64:04.

Rader then capped the scoring with goals at 87:25, 88:08, and 88:46, 14 seconds off the NCAA record for fastest hat trick in Division III history. Assists came from Jenna Abraham (South Riding, Va., Freedom)Excy Herrera (Alexandria, Va., Thomas Edison), and Erin Reynolds (Oakton, Va., Oakton).

The Eagles led in shots, 20-2, and had seven corner kicks to two for the Royals. Tina Brehm (Springfield, Va., Robert E. Lee) had no saves and Charlotte Owens (Fairfax, Va., Robinson) had one stop for the Eagles. Jenni Beck had eight saves for EMU.

Mary Washington will return to action on Saturday when they host Methodist University at 12:30 p.m.
