UMW Women's Soccer Drops 1-0 Decision to Roanoke

Roanoke College scored in the 49th minute to hand the University of Mary Washington women's soccer team a 1-0 defeat on Tuesday at the Battleground. The Eagles fall to 8-6-2 on the season.

After a scoreless first half, the Maroons scored on a header by Carmen Graves at 48:18. The goal was initially in question, but after the referees conferred, the assistant ref confirmed that the ball had crossed the goal line before UMW cleared it.

In a very even contest, each team had nine shots, with UMW holding a 6-5 edge in corner kicks. Both Roanoke's Carolyn Sarabacher and UMW's Tina Brehm (Springfield, Va., Robert E. Lee) each had three saves in the game.

The Eagles will return to action on Sunday in the first round of the CAC Tournament at either York or Frostburg.
