UMW Women's Soccer Falls to Salisbury, 2-0

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team allowed a goal in each half in a 2-0 loss to rival Salisbury University on Saturday at the Battleground. The Eagles fall to 6-3-1 overall and 2-2 in Capital Athletic Conference play.

The Eagles took the first chance in the game, but Salisbury responded with the next three shots, capped by Amanda Zyzak's goal at 24:41 on a Kira Mangone assist. The Sea Gulls held the lead at 1-0 to halftime.

In the second, the Eagles again started strongly, putting pressure on the Gulls early, but were unable to find the tying score. Sophomore Erin Reynolds nearly got the Eagles on the board, but her shot approximately ten minutes into the second half hit the far goal post and caromed away.

Less than two minutes later, the Gulls added an insurance goal, at 55:54, by Morgan Brasch. in all, Salisbury led in shots, 9-6, and in corner kicks, 4-2. Senior goalie Tina Brehm (Springfield, Va., Robert E. Lee) had four saves for the Eagles.

Mary Washington will return to action on Tuesday when they host Marymount University at 4:00 p.m.
