UMW Women's Soccer Ties St. Mary's, 1-1, at Homecoming


The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team tied St. Mary's College, 1-1, at Homecoming on Saturday at the Battleground. The Eagles move to 8-4-3 overall and 3-2-2 in CAC play.

After a scoreless first half, the Eagles got on the scoreboard first, as junior Amy Olson (Crofton, Md., Arundel) scored unassisted at 53:59. St. Mary's tied the score at one on a goal by Johanna Rambo and 59:49, and the teams played the rest of the way without a winning goal.

Mary Washington outshot St. Mary's, 18-9, and had 12 corner kicks to four for the visitors. Tina Brehm (Springfield, Va., Robert E. Lee) had three saves for Mary Washington, while Kelsey Wirtz had four saves for SMC.

The Eagles will visit Hood College on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in the regular season finale.
