Six UMW Women's Soccer Players Named All-CAC; Hewson Named Co-Coach of the Year
YORK, Pa. - The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team, champions of the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament, had six players named to the 2009 All-CAC team, with head coach Corey Hewson taking Co-Coach of the Year honors.

Sophomore forward Amy Olson, a second-team pick in 2008, is the only Mary Washington player with previous All-CAC recognition. Olson was a first-team pick along with junior midfielder Sarah Tryon, sophomore defender Karen Strat, freshman defender Emmalee Denkler and sophomore keeper Tina Brehm. Freshman Sunny Herald was a second-team all-star choice on the attack line for the Eagles.

Stevenson and Salisbury, which tied for the regular-season title, each placed five on the 2009 All-CAC team.

Stevenson senior midfielder Katie Decker joined Stephanie Eyler on the first-team All-CAC squad. Second-team berths were awarded to Kane, sophomore midfielder Allison Humphries, a repeat selection from 2008, and junior defender Kaitlyn Amos.

Salisbury was represented on the All-CAC first team by senior forward Christina Eury and senior defender Hillary Grove. Second-team all-star recognition was presented to sophomore midfielder Mara Hauf, senior defender Colleen Galligan and freshman keeper Melissa Orgera. Grove is the only repeat selection for the Sea Gulls as she is making her third-straight appearance on the post-season team.

St. Mary’s picked up four all-star nods, led by senior midfielder Sophia Esparza, who is a four-time first-team All-CAC honoree and the 2006 Rookie of the Year. Joining Esparza on the All-CAC squad as second-team picks were senior defender Karissa Carroll, sophomore defender Allison Ahdieh and freshman midfielder Liza Sitz. Carroll is a two-time second-team all-star.

York tied for second with two first-team All-CAC berths and placed third players on the post-season team. Junior forward Steph Mergler and junior defender Lauren Stewart were selected for the CAC’s top squad while rookie midfielder Kat Sipes earned a second-team All-CAC nod.
