UMW Women's Soccer Falls in OT at Stevenson, 3-2

The University of Mary Washington women's soccer team overcame a 2-0 deficit to force overtime, but fell with 1:57 left in the first extra period in a 3-2 defeat at Stevenson University on Saturday in Owings Mills, Md. The Eagles fall to 10-4-3 overall, and 3-2-2 in Capital Athletic Conference play.

The Eagles fell behind, 1-0, on a Stephanie Eyler goal at 21:06, and trailed, 1-0, at halftime. The Mustangs upped the lead to 2-0 at 49:55 on a goal by Melinda Kane. But the Eagles cut the deficit to one at 63:03 on a goal from freshman Katy Generelli (Spotswood, N.J., Spotswood), and UMW tied the score on an Amy Olson (Crofton, Md., Arundel) goal at 87:13.

Stevenson's Heather Redding scored the game winner at 98:03 to keep the Mustangs atop the conference standings. Stevenson edged UMW in shots, 14-13, while the Eagles held a 3-1 edge in corner kicks. UMW sophomore Tina Brehm (Springfield, Va., Robert E. Lee) had five saves in goal, while Stevenson's Lauren Weitzman added six saves.

The Eagles will close the regular season on Tuesday with another CAC contest at Hood College. Match time is set for 3:30 p.m.
