UMW Women's Soccer Tops Gallaudet, 9-1


Freshman forward Katy Generelli (Spotswood, N.J., Spotswood) scored three goals and sophomore Amy Olson (Crofton, Md., Arundel) added two goals and two assists to lead the University of Mary Washington women's soccer team to a 9-1 win at Gallaudet University on Sunday afternoon in Capital Athletic Conference action in Washington, D.C. With the win, UMW improves to 7-1-2 overall, and 2-0-1 in CAC play.

Freshman Sunny Herold (Palmyra, Va., Fluvanna) opened the scporing at 2:22 into the game, but Gallaudet tied the score in the 25th minute. From then on, the Eagles would score eight straight to close the game. Senior Allison DiPippa (Centreville, Va., Westfield) put the Eagles ahead in the 28th minute, with Generelli scoring the first of her three tallies in the 38th minute. UMW held a 3-1 lead at halftime.

The Eagles saw Nicole Dierkes (Fairfax, Va., W.T. Woodson) score in the 49th minute, followed by Olson scoring in the 57th minute. Generelli added goals in the 68th and 70 minutes, Sarah Tryon (Fairfax Station, Va., South County) scored at 73:19, and Olson capped the scoring at 78:08.

The Eagles outshot Gallaudet, 45-8, and had four corner kicks to one for the Bison. Sophomore Grace Rosales (Vienna, Va., Madison) had three saves for the Eagles, while Gallaudet's Kara Gulvas had 19 saves.

Mary Washington will host Marymount University on Wednesday in another CAC contest at 4:00 p.m.
