UMW Women's Soccer Ties York, 1-1, in CAC Shootout

In a battle of two of the top teams in the Capital Athletic Conference, the University of Mary Washington and York College played to a 1-1 ties on Saturday at the Battleground. The Eagles move to 6-1-2 overall and 1-0-1 in conference play, while York moves to 7-1-1 and 1-0-1.

Despite having several quality scoring chances early which saw one shot hit the post and several others sail high, the Eagles found themselves trailing at halftime, as York's Meghan Rowland score on an Erin Mummert assist at 39:25.

The Eagles trailed throughout most of the second half, but sophomore scoring leader Amy Olson (Crofton, Md., Arundel) found the nets with the tying score at 87:00 on an assist from Chrissy Reardon (Springfield, Va., Robert E. Lee).

The Eagles outshot York, 11-8, and had one corner kick to six for the Spartans. Eagle goalkeeper Tina Brehm (Springfield, Va., Robert E. Lee) had four saves for UMW while York's Sarah Spanarkel had six stops for York.

Mary Washington will visit Gallaudet University in another CAC contest on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
