UMW Women's Soccer Blanks Averett, 2-0

Sophomore forward Amy Olson (Crofton, Md., Arundel) continued her torrid scoring pace to lead the University of Mary Washington women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Averett University on Sunday at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 6-1-1 on the season.

The Eagles scored early, as sophomore Bridget Dooley (Marcellus, N.Y., Marcellus) scored on an assist from Olson at 5:17. UMW scored again at 48:26 as Olson scored her fifth goal of the week unassisted. Dooley played the ball in the box to Olson, whose initial shot was saved. But Olson collected the rebound to add the insurance tally.

Mary Washington outshot Averett, 29-1, and had 11 corner kicks to none for the Cougars. UMW goalies Tina Brehm (Springfield, Va., Robert E. Lee) and Grace Rosales (Vienna, Va., Madison) shared the shutout, with Rosales making one save. Samantha Lupo had 12 saves for Averett.

Mary Washington will host York College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in a Capital Athletic Conference match.
