UMW Women's Soccer Tops Christopher Newport, 3-1


Sophomore forward Amy Olson scored one goal and assisted on another in leading the University of Mary Washington women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Christopher Newport University in Newport News on Wednesday evening. The Eagles improve to 4-1-1 on the season.

The Captains jumped ahead early, scoring at 17:29 on a score from Julie Jennings. The Eagles were able to tie the score on a tally by Olson at 27:57, and the score remained tied at one at halftime.

UMW jumped ahead for good on an unassisted score by Nicole Dierkes at 57:37. Senior Allison DiPippa capped the scoring at 88:21 on a pass from Olson.

Mary Washington was outshot, 12-11, and CNU had seven corner kicks to three for UMW. Sophomore Tina Brehm made six saves for the Eagles, while Dineen Sampson had five stops for the Captains.

The Eagles will host Wesley College at 1:00 p.m. in a Capital Athletic Conference match.
