#3 MWC Women's Soccer Blanks York, 3-0, at Homecoming

The 3rd-ranked Mary Washington College women's soccer team used an early score and a pair of late ones to defeat York College of Pa., 3-0, on Saturday at homecoming. The Eagles improve to 15-1-1 on the season.

Freshman midfielder Ellen Anderson opened the scoring for the Eagles in the 10th minute, scoring on an assist from senior defender Felicity Smith. The score stood at 1-0 through intermission, and into the second half, as freshman Sarah Downey scored at 64:17, on a pass from freshman Laura Stafford, providing the Eagles with an insurance score.

Freshman Martine St. Germain capped the scoring at 88:16, from an assist from junior Erica Salmin.

The Eagles led in shots, 38-1, and had nine corner kicks to none for the Spartans. Eagle keeper Anne Wenthe had one save in 75 minutes, while freshman Colby Carrier didn't see a shot in 15 minutes of relief.

With the win, the Eagles clinch the top seed in the Capital Athletic Conference tournament, and tie the school season record for shutouts, with their 12th. MWC also extends its school-record 15-game unbeaten streak.
