UMW Women's Rugby Places Third at Mid Atlantic Rugby Conference Championship

UMW Women's Rugby Places Third at Mid Atlantic Rugby Conference Championship

On Saturday April 13, the UMW Women's Rugby team traveled to Towson University to play in the Mid-Atlantic Rugby Conference 7s Championship.  The MARC 7s Championship consisted of the top 4 teams from the North Division and the top 4 teams from the South Division.  Representing MARC North were:

#1 Temple University

#2 Kutztown University

#3 University of Delaware

#4 Towson University

 

Representing MARC South were:

#1 American University

#2 College of William & Mary

#3 University of Mary Washington

#4 University of Maryland

 

Mary Washington was put into "Pool A".  The results of the pool play were:

Towson 29 - Mary Washington 0

Mary Washington 22 - William & Mary 15

Mary Washington 28 - American 5

 

As a result of pool play, UMW qualified for the Semifinals.  However, UMW lost to Temple:

Temple 35 - Mary Washington 5

 

In the match for 3rd place, UMW was victorious over Delaware:

Mary Washington 20 - Delaware 0

 

Congratulations to those who scored a try for UMW, Ava Ward (6), Angelle Laboard (5), and Nyah Speicher (2) and to the conversions made by Libby York (3) and Ava Ward (2).

Compliments to Temple, who beat Towson in the Finals.  Temple will move on to the National 7s Collegiate Rugby Championship on April 27-28 at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Maryland.
