UMW Women's Rugby Places Fifth at MARC 7s Qualifier

On Saturday April 6, the UMW Women's Rugby team traveled to George Mason to play in a Mid-Atlantic Rugby Conference 7s Qualifier.  In addition to Mary Washington, seven other schools attended: American University, the College of William & Mary, George Washington University, George Mason University, Georgetown University, the University of Maryland, and Virginia Commonwealth University.

The Mary Washington A-side team was put into "Pool B".  The results of the pool play were:

Georgetown 24 - Mary Washington 19

George Mason 38 - Mary Washington 0

Mary Washington 29 - Maryland 0

As a result of pool play, UMW played for 5th place, with the result:

Mary Washington 24 - George Washington 0

Congratulations to those who scored a try for UMW, Nyah Speicher (5), Ava Ward (5), Logan Rowland, and Merritt Scherer and to the conversions made by Ava Ward (6).  Special congratulations to Rowland and Scherer who scored their first ever try for UMW rugby!

Compliments to American, who beat William & Mary in the Finals.

Based on the points acquired from the Mid-Atlantic Rugby Conference 7s Qualifiers, Mary Washington has qualified for the Mid-Atlantic Rugby Conference 7s Playoffs!

The MARC 7s playoffs are Saturday April 13 and will be hosted by Towson University.
