UMW Women's Rugby Places 5th at Conference 7s Qualifier

On Saturday March 30, the UMW Women's Rugby team hosted a Mid-Atlantic Rugby Conference 7s Qualifier.  In addition to Mary Washington, 6 other schools attended:  American University, the College of William & Mary, George Washington University, George Mason University, the University of Maryland, and Virginia Commonwealth University.  To round out the bracket to an even 8 teams, UMW was allowed to enter a B-side.

The Mary Washington A-side team was put into "Pool A".  The results of the pool play were:

William & Mary 14 - Mary Washington 5

Mary Washington 22 - Virginia Commonwealth 0

George Mason 40 - Mary Washington 10

As a result of pool play, UMW played for 5th place, with the result:

Mary Washington 33 - George Washington 12

Congratulations to those who scored a try for UMW, Katy Field (5), Sam Holtry (2), Ava Ward (2), Angelle Laboard and to the conversions made by Ava Ward (3) and Libby York (2).  A special congratulations goes to Alex Little who scored her first ever UMW rugby try.

The Mary Washington B-side team was put into "Pool B".  The B-side was less fortunate, with the results of the pool play:

Maryland 24 - UMW B 5

George Washington 34 - UMW B 17

American University 32 - UMW B 17

As a result of pool play, UMW B-side played for 7th place, with the result:

Virginia Commonwealth 38 - Mary Washington 0

Congratulations to B-side players Deanna Fortney, Amelia Bailey, and Brianna Daly, who scored their first ever UMW rugby try!

Compliments to George Mason, who beat American in the Finals with the score of 14-10.

On April 6 UMW will travel to George Mason for the next Mid-Atlantic Rugby Conference 7s Qualifier.
