UMW Women's Rugby Falls at Virginia, 25-17

On Feb 11, the UMW Women's Rugby team traveled to Charlottesville, Virginia to play the University of Virginia's b-side.  It was the first meeting between the two teams in nine years.

UMW opened with a score just 7 minutes into the half, taking the lead 5-0.  Scoring her first try ever for UMW was freshman winger Madison Hurton.  However, UMW let down their defensive guard and UVA was able to even the score just 3 minutes later, making it 5-5.  The Virginia offense was able to maintain most of the ball control in the first half, putting 3 more tries on the board, ending the first half 20-5 in UVA's favor.

The second half saw a changed lineup from UMW.  The team was immediately able to capitalize on the new formation, scoring just two minutes into the half.  Scoring for UMW was fullback Charmaine Spencer.  Converting the try for UMW was flanker Libby York, bringing the score to 20-12.  The UMW offense remained strong, scoring again just 8 minute later for UMW was team captain Carrie Garvey, reducing UVA's lead to 20-17.  For the next ten minutes, possession was split between the two teams.  However, at the 62nd minute, UVA broke free for a try increasing their lead.  The possession for the remaining match was again split between the teams.  UVA held onto their lead and won the match 25-17.
