Mary Washington women’s rugby starts the Spring 2017 season ranked 4th

After a moderately successfully Fall 2016 season, the women's rugby team at Mary Washington opens the Spring 2017 season ranked 4th in USA Rugby's Women's Collegiate Division II.  The rankings are according The Rugby Breakdown (http://www.therugbybreakdown.com/single-post/2017/02/20/DII-College-Spring-Top-20), the leading entity that reports on women's rugby in the U.S., covering high school to national team's news.

Due to USA Rugby recently splitting their competition into a Fall Championship and a Spring Championship, the Rugby Breakdown ranks teams that are currently in their competition seasons.  However, the Capital Conference is one of the few conferences that declares a champion in the fall which advances to the Spring Championship.  Capital Conference teams, like Mary Washington appear in rankings during both semesters.  Therefore, all but two teams from the fall rankings (Towson and Mary Washington) will be absent from the spring series of rankings, which focus on teams qualifying for the 2017 Spring Championship.

As the Capital Conference Champion Towson automatically qualifies for the USA Rugby Spring Championships.  Finishing second in the Capital Conference, Mary Washington is hoping to reach the playoffs via an at-large bid.
