UMW Women's Lacrosse Falls at St. Mary's, 11-8, on Friday Evening

The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team dropped an 11-8 decision at St. Mary's College of MD on Friday evening. The Eagles slip to 5-11 on the season.

The Seahawks built a 4-1 lead n the first, netting the first two goals of the game. After the Eagles drew to within one on a score from Bridget Crowley at 1:40, SMC scored two more to close the first quarter with a 4-1 lead.

The Eagles turned things around in the second quarter, outscoring the hosts, 4-0, in taking the lead. Abigail Fisher started the run at 11:59, and Molly Daw followed with a man-down score at 5:05. Crowley added her second of the night at 4:15, and Caeley Terapane capped the run with 57 seconds left on an assist from Daw.

St. Mary's opened the third quarter with a tying score, but Crowley added her third on a free position shot with 10:53 to go. After St. Mary's scored twice to take the lead, Terapane scored on a Crowley assist with 4:41 to go to knot the score at 7-7.

In the fourth, the Eagles fell behind, but tied the score on a Kaie Blair tally with 12:09 left. From there, the Seahawks outscored the Eagles, 3-0, in gaining victory.

The Seahawks led in shots, 37-30, as well as ground balls, 18-15. Cailyn Tripp made seven saves for the Eagles.

UMW will close the regular season on Sunday at Washington & Lee University at 1:00 p.m.
