UMW Women's Lacrosse Falls to #5 Salisbury, 19-9, in Home Finale

The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team droped a 19-9 decision to fifth ranked Salisbury University on Wednesday afternoon at the Battleground. The Eagles slip to 5-10 on the season.

The Eagles came out firing on all cylinders, building a 4-3 after 15 minutes. After the Sea Gulls opened the scoring, the Eagles drew even at 9:39, as Caeley Terapane scored on a Bridget Crowley assist. The Sea Gulls went back on top just 19 seconds later, but the Eagles knotted the score at 8:25, on a score from Katie Blair that was set up by Bridget Crowley. Terapane scored on a Crowley pass at 3:40 to put the Eagles on top, after a tying score, Molly Daw put UMW back up on a Rachael Oestrike assist at 1:20.

The Sea Gulls heated up in the second, scoring four straight before a Blair goal at 7:48, on a Crowley assist. SU would score four more to close the second, and led, 11-5, at halftime.

Salisbury netted two goals to open the third, before Taylar Hackney scored on a free position shot at 9:01. The Gulls would close the third with four straight, and add two more to open the fourth. UMW closed the game with three straight goals, with Blair scoring on a Molly Daw assist at 6:03, Daw following with a free position shot at 3:53, and Victoria Mueller scoring on an Abigail Fisher assist just before the final horn.

Salisbury led in shots, 41-20, as well as ground balls, 23-14. Cailyn Tripp made 12 saves in 45 minutes, with Alison Carolan manning the goal for the fourth.

The Eagles will visit St. Mary's College on Friday evening at 6:00 p.m.
