UMW Women's Lax Falls, 13-7, at #21 Christopher Newport

The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team dropped a 13-7 decision at 21st ranked Christopher Newport University on Saturday afternoon in Newport News, Va. The Eagles slip to 5-9 on the season.

The Eagles jumped on top at 11:26, as senior Katie Blair scored on a Bridget Crowley assist in a man-up opportunity. The Captains responded with four straight goals, before the Eagles used scores from Caeley Terapane and Blair to draw to within 4-3 by the close of the first.

The Captains outscored the Eagles, 3-0, in the second quarter, and started scoring in the third to move their advantage to 8-3. Blair stemmed the tide at 6:11, but the teams would trade goals for the rest of the period, with Bridget Crowley and Molly Daw finding the net for UMW. Daw connected on a free position shot in the fourth as the Eagles' only goal.

Christopher Newport led in shots, 28-24, as well as ground balls, 19-14. UMW goalkeeper Cailyn Tripp made nine saves on the day.

The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday, when they host Salisbury University at 4:00 p.m.
