UMW Women's Lacrosse Tops Meredith, 18-6, on Wednesday Night

The University of Mary Washington women's alcrosse team defeated Meredith College, 18-6, on Wednesday night at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 5-8 on the season.

The Eagles jumped in front early, netting the first four goals of the night. Caeley Terapane opened the scoring with a free position shot in the opening minute, and Molly Daw followed on an assist from Bridget Crowley at 7:56. Terapane added another at 7:14  on a Crowley pass, and Abigail Fisher upped the lead to 4-0 with a free position shot at 4:08. After an Avenging Angels score, Katie Blair scored unassisted at 2:46.

In the second, UMW scored the first five goals, with Blair scoring at 11:48 on a Daw pass, Fisher scoring on an Anna Dube feed at 10:59, and Crowley scoring on a free position shot at 10:01. Daw then scored two more, on a man down shot, and then on a Crowley assist at 8:24. Meredith added another before three more Eagle goals, from Daw, Terapane, and Blair, upped the halftime lead to 13-3.

The Eagles outscored the guests, 4-0, in the third quarter. Blair scored on a Dube assist, and Victoria Mueller followed at 11:42 on yet another Crowley pass. Taylar Hackney scored at 5:19 on a Blair pass, and Kimber Konen scored at 4:04 on a pass from Ashley Firesheets.

Meredith scored three in the fourth, before Kendel Iwanicki scored with 2:21 on a pass from Caitlyn Hoen.

The Eagles led in shots, 32-26, and in draw controls, 18-6. In goal for the Eagles Cailyn Tripp had six saves, Alison Carolan added three, and Cece Van Blenis had three.

UMW will return to action on Saturday when they visit Christopher Newport at 3:00 p.m.
