#7 UMW Women’s Lacrosse Tops #10 Catholic, 11-7, on Tuesday

The seventh-ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team topped tenth-ranked Catholic University, 11-7, on Tuesday afternoon in Fredericksburg, VA. The Eagles improve to 13-2 overall and pick up their second top 10 win this season. Senior Julia Albert led the Eagles with three goals and senior Hanna Ashby made 12 saves in goal on the day.

The Cardinals got on the board early as they scored 40 seconds in. UMW answered that goal as they scored a minute later to tie the game at 1-1. Over the next two minutes, Catholic added two more goals to take a 3-1 advantage. The Eagles added two goals to tie the game as Albert scored at the 22:15 mark and then Kristen Kunaniec scored on an assist from Mackenzie Maguire with 18:45 left. 

After a goal from Catholic with 12:49 left, UMW then went on a run to take a three goal lead into the half. Maguire scored her first of the game and then Albert added a goal to give UMW a 5-4 lead with 10:07 left. Allison Davis then scored her first goal of the game with 4:50 left and Maguire added another goal as she was getting knocked down to give UMW a 7-4 lead at the half. 

Out of the break, Catholic was able to take advantage of two man-up opportunities and score two goals to put the game at 7-6 with 25:19 to play. Just 30 seconds later, Hope Lockwood was able to beat the goalie and score to go up 8-6. Savannah Boyd added a goal with 21:16 to play and then Lockwood added another goal on an assist from Maguire to put the Eagles up 10-6 with 19:41 left. 

The Cardinals got a goal with 11:53 left. Over the next 10 minutes the two defenses took over until Kunaniec finished a goal from Maguire with 2:09 left to put the Eagles back ahead four, 11-7. From there, UMW's defense held on to secure the win.

Davis had six draw controls, and Paige Haskins recorded three draw controls. Haskins, Sarah Hampton and Jennifer Bosserman all recorded two caused turnovers a piece. 

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday as they will host #9 York at 1 p.m. as part of Senior Day.
