Hanna Ashby Named CAC Defensive Player of the Week

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- St. Mary's junior midfielder Kate Bartholomew & Mary Washington senior goalkeeper Hanna Ashby were honored as the CAC Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week for March 25, 2019.   

Offensive Player of the Week

St. Mary's junior midfielder Kate Bartholomew recorded a team-high 10 points as the No. 25 Seahawks finished the week 2-0 with victories over Randolph-Macon and Roanoke. Bartholomew tallied eight goals and two assists, while collecting 10 draw controls and three ground balls.

Mary Washington senior goalkeeper Hanna Ashby led Mary Washington to a pair of wins this week, making 12 saves in an 8-6 win at Stevenson and adding eight saves in a 16-12 win over Meredith. For the week, she made 20 saves while allowing 13 goals, for a 60.6 save %, and a 6.93 goals against average.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Frostburg State's Stephanie King finished the week with 14 points in two games ... In an OT loss to Hope, she scored six goals and handed out three assists...Salisbury's Lindsey Wagner tallied five points in No. 5 Salisbury's lone game of the week, a 14-7 victory over No. 15 SUNY Cortland. Wagner notched three goals to go along with two assists, adding one ground ball in the win...Salisbury's Skye Graham posted a 7.00 goals against average and 50.0 save percentage in a 1-0 week for No. 5 Salisbury. She made seven saves to earn the win in net against No. 15 SUNY Cortland. Graham added nine ground balls and one caused turnover in the victory...York's Meghan Fox had a fantastic week against a pair of top three teams. In the Spartans' loss at #1 Gettysburg on Wednesday, Fox tallied five goals and added an assist as she was responsible for 60% of the Spartans scoring in the game. She also had four draw controls and a caused turnover for the Spartans. Fox followed that with five goals on seven shots in the Spartans' 13-12 loss to #3 Washington & Lee on Saturday. For the week, Fox finished with 11 points on 10 goals and one assist while she also had four draw controls and a ground ball...York's Nicole Clauter had another big week despite a pair of losses to top three teams. Clauter began the week with four draw controls, five ground balls and a caused turnover in the 15-10 loss at #1 Gettysburg. She followed that with nine draw control and two ground balls in the one goal loss to #3 Washington & Lee on Saturday. She became the Spartans' all-time leader in career draw controls in the game. For the week, Clauter finished with 13 draw controls, seven ground balls and a caused turnover. ...Mary Washington's Julia Albert led #4 Mary Washington to a pair of wins this week, scoring three goals and an assist in an 8-6 win over Stevenson, and added five goals and an assist over Meredith. She also won eight draw controls as the Eagles improved to 9-1...Despite the tough loss at home, Southern Virginia's Lauren Thatcher was solid for the Knights as she attributed to nearly half of the team's points scoring three goals and a pair of assist for five points shooting 60 percent and 80 percent on goal...St. Mary's Stephanie Hefron was a key contributor in a 2-0 week for the No. 25 Seahawks. Heffron hustled for important possessions with a team-high 15 draw controls. In addition, Heffron collected three ground balls and caused three turnovers...Christopher Newport's Sam Wettengel pieced together a well-rounded week while anchoring CNU?s midfield unit. She eventually led the Captains with six caused turnovers and seven ground balls during her two outings. Her finest performance came on Thursday against Messiah when she registered a career-high five caused turnovers. That also equaled the eighth-highest single-game total in program history. She also established a new career-high with six ground balls against the Falcons while adding four points on the offensive end. With that performance, she became just the fourth Captain in program history to record at least four caused turnovers, four ground balls, and four points in a single game. She also became the first to reach those numbers since Katie Doherty accomplished the feat against Guilford on March 1, 2009. In addition to her work on Thursday, Wettengel also forced a turnover and scored a goal at Washington (Md.) on Tuesday.
