#2 UMW Women’s Lacrosse Falls to #4 Franklin and Marshall, 6-4, on Wednesday Evening

The second-ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team fell to fourth-ranked Franklin and Marshall College, 6-4, on Wednesday evening in Lancaster, PA. UMW slips to 4-1 on the season. 

In the early going, UMW took an early 1-0 advantage as Mackenzie Maguire scored just 1:51 into the game. The Eagles then added to that lead as Julia Albert scored on an assist from Maguire with 22:57 to play in the half. From there, the Diplomats scored three straight goals to take a 3-2 lead with 12:24 remaining in the first half.

Hope Lockwood ended the Diplomats run as she netted a goal with 9:25 to play on an assist from Maguire. The two teams couldn't find the back of the net over the last 9:25 and the score was tied 3-3 going into the half. 

The scoring drought for both teams continued early into the second half, until Albert scored her second goal of the game to give UMW a 4-3 lead on a free position shot with 23:57 remaining. FMC tied the game up at four a piece with 18:16 to play in the game.

Both teams then played excellent defense forcing many turnovers over the next 15 minutes of play. The Diplomats then took the lead, 5-4, with just 3:29 to play. FMC added another goal with 2:08 remaining in the game to go up 6-4 and hold on for the game.

Senior Hanna Ashby made eight saves in goal for the Eagles. Sarah Hampton picked up two ground balls for UMW.

The Eagles will travel to Messiah on Saturday for a game at 2 p.m.
