The ninth-ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team downed Marymount University, 18-6, on Saturday afternoon in Fredericksburg, Va. The Eagles improve to 13-3 overall, and 6-2 in the CAC. Julia Albert, Allison Davis, and Lauren Fox all tallied three goals on the day.
Early in the first half, Marymount scored to take a 1-0 lead just 1:06 in. The Eagles answered as they scored two goals over the next 1:15. Paige Haskins scored the first goal on a Holly Hudson and then Mackenzie Maguire added the second. The Saints scored on a man-up opportunity with 21:45 to play that tied the game at two a piece.
Haskins scored her second on the day on an assist from Maguire that put UMW up 3-2. Again, the Saints tied the game as they scored with 17:56 to play. From there, Albert gave the Eagles the lead for good with 15:53 remaining in the first half. Davis scored on a Maguire assist, and then Hope Lockwood scored on a Maguire assist to put UMW up 6-3 with 12:56 left.
Maguire then scored her own on an assist from Hudson, and Davis added her second goal on an assist from Savannah Boyd with 10:19 to play. UMW scored four more goals before half to take a 12-3 lead. They were scored by Lockwood, Hudson, Katherine Lambert, and Albert. Albert assisted on two of those and Kate Sovero assisted to Albert's.
In the second half, Davis added her third goal on a free position shot and Albert scored unassisted with 24:11 to give UMW a 14-3 lead. Marymount ended that run as they scored with 21:17 to play to cut it to 10, 14-4.
Fox got in the scoring column with 17:05 to play, but then the Saints added two goals to cut it to nine, 15-6. Fox added her second goal on a free position shot, and then Elizabeth Goernemann scored her first goal of the year with 3:42 remaining. Fox scored the last goal of the day with 39 seconds left to help UMW win 18-6.
Kirsten Littlefield secured six draw controls on the day, while Davis secured four. Lambert and Paige Childers each picked up three ground balls.
UMW will be back in action on Wednesday as they will travel to #17 Catholic University at 7 p.m.
