The 15th ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team jumped out to an early lead, but dropped an 8-2 decision at second ranked Washington & Lee University on Sunday in Lexington, Va. The Eagles close with a record of 15-6.

After the Generals opened with the first goal of the day less than a minute into the action, the Eagles answered with a goal from freshman Paige Haskins at 25:11 to draw even, and took the lead at 23:27 on a score from junior Holly Hudson. The Generals tied the score two minutes later, and went on to score the final six goals of the game.

The Generals' defense, ranked second in the nation in goals allowed per game, stalled the Eagle offense helped greatly by goalkeeper Elliot Gilbert, who made several quality saves in the second half to keep the Eagles off the scoreboard.

Washington & Lee led in shots, 18-10, and in ground balls, 13-10. UMW goalkeeper Hanna Ashby had five saves for the Eagles, while Gilbert had six for the hosts. Peyton Murray led the Eagles with three ground balls.

The Eagles close the season at 15-6, having advanced to the NCAA Tournament second round for the second straight year.
