The 14th ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team fell at 10th ranked Salisbury, 11-5, on Saturday in the CAC Tournament semifinals. The Eagles drop to 14-5 on the season.
The Eagles wasted no time in finding the net in the opening period as Sabrina Elliott found Emily Mott just 1:30 into the contest. Salisbury responded with three straight to take the lead, but Julia Albert scored off a Mackenzie Maguire assist to bring the Eagles within one.
Salisbury answered again by tallying four straight goals to go up 7-2 with 6:31 left in the half. Kate Smucker found Kelsey Vincent for a score with just less than three minutes left, but Salisbury scored again to head into the break up 8-3.
In the second half, both teams went scoreless until Salisbury scored at the 17:34 mark and again with 14:00 left. Elliott scored to cut the lead to 10-4 with 12:50 left in the game before Salisbury added their final goal with 6:04 on the clock. Kate Smucker put a cap on the scoring for the Eagles with 2:36 remaining in the contest.
Salisbury led in shots, 25-12, in ground balls, 19-18, and won 12 of 18 draw controls. Hanna Ashby recorded eight saves in goal for the Eagles.
The Eagles will wait for a potential bid to the NCAA Tournament, which begins Saturday, May, 13.
