#14 UMW Women's Lacrosse Tops Marymount, 18-9, in Regular Season Finale

The 14th ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team used three goals and two assists from Mackenzie Maguire and Kate Smucker and three more scores from Holly Hudson in an 18-9 win at Marymount University on Saturday in the regular season finale. The Eagles improve to 13-4 overall and 6-2 in Capital Athletic Conference action.

Hudson opened the scoring for the Eagles at 29:22, and Smucker scored on a Maguire assist with 27:34 left. Allison Davis scored on a Smucker feed with 27:02, giving the Eagles a 3-0 lead inside of the first three minutes of play.

Marymount scored two of the next three goals, sandwiched around a Smucker score with 24:54 left. The Eagles then went on a 6-0 run, keyed by two goals and one assist from Maguire, to grab a 10-2 lead. Kelsey Vincent, Hudson, Julia Albert, and Hope Lockwood also added goals in the run. Marymount stopped the run with a score with 1:57 left, but Davis scored again 18 seconds later to give UMW an 11-3 lead at halftime.

The second half saw Marymount open with a pair of goals, but UMW answered with four straight. Hudsons cored with 22:36 left, and Maguire followed at 22:02. Sabrina Elliott followed at 15:35, and Savannah Boyd added another at 13:17.

The Saints cut the deficit to 15-8 with three straight goals, but UMW scored three of the final four of the game. Emily Mott scored on a Smucker pass with 7:58 left, and Smucker followed 18 seconds later unassisted. Paige Haskins capped the scoring with 1:33 left.

Mary Washington led in shots, 37-18, and ground balls, 16-15. UMW won 18 of 29 draw controls, and caused six failed clears. Hanna Ashby had three saves in goal for UMW, with Jacquelyn Albanese adding one and Kelsey Welsh two.

The Eagles will host sixth-seeded Frostburg State University on Tuesday in a Capital Athletic Conference first round matchup. First draw will occur at 4 p.m.
