#16 UMW Women's Lacrosse Tops #11 Catholic, 12-4, on Sunday Afternoon

Mackenzie Maguire scored five goals to lead the 16th ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team over the 11th ranked Catholic University Cardinals, 12-4, on Sunday afternoon at the Battleground Complex. The Eagles improve to 11-4.

The Eagles found the net early as Maguire scored her first goal on a free position shot in the opening minutes. Sabrina Elliott put the Eagles up 2-0 when she scored at the 24:58 mark. Maguire scored again on a free position shot before she found Kate Smucker to put the Eagles up 4-0 with 21:24 left in the half.

The Eagles scored two more goals in the first half to head into the break, up 6-0. Emily Mott found Paige Haskins and Holly Hudson scored unassisted.

In the second, Mott dished out another assist, this time to Maguire. Julia Albert scored on a free position shot before Maguire added her fourth goal of the game with 20:36 left on the clock.

After a Catholic goal, the Eagles used a man-up opportunity when Elliot found Hudson for her second goal of the game to go up 10-1. Maguire followed with her last goal at the 9:35 mark before Catholic added two to bring the score to 11-3.

The Eagles took advantage of another man-up opportunity when Hudson scored on a free position shot. Catholic scored with just under a minute left in the contest to cap the scoring for the game at 12-4.

The Eagles led in shots, 29-22, while both teams picked up 31 ground balls apiece. Kirsten Littlefield and Elliot combined for 11 ground balls.

The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Frostburg State at 4 pm.
