#16 UMW Women's Lacrosse Tops Southern Virginia, 17-0, on Saturday for Senior Day

The 16th ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team jumped out to a 13-0 halftime advantage en route to a 17-0 victory over Southern Virginia University on Saturday afternoon at the Battleground in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Eagles improve to 9-4 overall, and 3-2 in league action. The shutout was the first for the UMW program since 1987.

Junior Holly Hudson opened the scoring at 27:37, and sophomore Mackenzie Maguire followed at 26:43. Senior Emily Mott scored on a free position shot with 24:53 left, and Maguire scored on a Sabrina Elliott assist with 22:42 remaining.

Senior Kate Smucker scored on an Allison Davis feed with 22:05 to go, and senior Kelsey Vincent scored unassisted with 21:27 left. Elliott followed with another goal at 20:16, and Paige Haskins scored on a Julia Albert pass with 19:41 to play.

Albert followed with a score with 18:57 left on a Nikki Lind assist. Lind then scored with 18:16 left, and Kristen Kunaniec scored with 10:29 remaining on a Lind pass. Albert scored with 8:00 left on a Lind pass, and Hope Lockwood scored with 5:42 left on another lind assist.

In the second half, Maguire scored on a Smucker assist with 23:21 left, and Lind scored again with 21:17 remaining. Senior Maiah Bartlett scored with 15:44 on the clock on a Kunaniec assist, and Katie rauchwarg followed with a score with 7:48 to go on a Savannah Boyd assist.

The Eagles led in shots, 31-2, and in ground balls, 29-6. UMW controlled 12 of 19 draw controls.

Mary Washington will be back in action on Wednesday when they visit St. Mary's College at 4:00 p.m. in a key CAC contest.
