#16 UMW Women's Lacrosse Tops Wesley, 17-1, in Wednesday CAC Tilt

Sophomores Allison Davis and Mackenzie Maguire each scored four times to lead the 16th ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team to a 17-1 victory over Wesley College on Wednesday afternoon in Capital Athletic Conference action at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 7-3 on the season, and 1-1 in CAC play.

Freshman Paige Haskins started the offensive onslaught on a Sabrina Elliott assist with 25:45 left in the first. Maguire followed with unassisted scores at 20:11 and 19:59. Senior Kate Smucker followed on a Haskins assist 32 seconds later to give UMW a 4-0 lead.

Maguire scored again with 17:45 left, and Davis followed with goals with 17:13 (on a Katherine Lambert assist) and 11:00 on the clock. Savannah Boyd scored on a Kristen Kunaniec assist with 9:34 remaining, and Emily Mott scored with 29 seconds left and again with one second left, giving UMW a 10-0 lead at halftime.

Maguire scored on a free position shot with 28:42 left in the second, and Smucker followed at 26:24 on a Davis assist. Davis then scored with 24:38 remaining, and Paige Childers scored with 20:57 left on a Kunaniec assist.

After a Wesley goal, Davis scored on a free position shot with 13:47 remaining, Hope Lockwood scored at 11:43, and Paige Childers capped the scoring with 7:34 to go on a Lambert assist.

The Eagles led in shots, 32-3, and in ground balls, 28-9. UMW won 13 of 19 draw controls, with Haskins leading with five ground balls. Hanna Ashby made one save in 20:26 in goal, with Jacquelyn Albanese and Kelsey Welsh also seeing time.

UMW will be back in action on Saturday when they visit ninth ranked York College at 1:00 p.m. in another CAC contest.
