The 16th ranked University of Mary Washington Eagles rode a strong first half scoring performance and dominant second half defense to a 16-6 victory over Randolph-Macon College on Tuesday in Ashland.

With the score tied 2-2 early in the first half, the Eagles scored four unanswered goals over a 10 minute span to take a lead they wouldn't let go of. Four separate Eagles scored unassisted goals over the span, including goals from Holly Hudson, Mackenzie Maguire, Emily Mott and Hope Lockwood. Hudson recorded her second of three first half goals during the run as seven different Eagles tallied goals before halftime. The Jackets scored two goals in the last two minutes of the first half to close the gap to 9-5 going into halftime.

Hudson and Lockwood led the way in a second half explosion, each scoring two goals while the Eagles outscored the Jackets 7-1 in the second half to cap off the victory. Hudson, who finished with a game-high five goals in the game, added in an assist to her game and a game-high eight shots on goal.

Maguire led the Eagles in assists with two to go along with her two goals. In net, Hanna Ashby played 50 minutes and earned the win as she recorded six saves on 11 shots.

Despite losing the draw control battle, 13-11, the Eagles controlled the turnover differential, forcing 29 RMC turnovers to their own 20 and out-shot the Jackets 29 to 17.

The Eagles improve to 6-3 overall and will play at home on Wednesday in the second game of a back-to-back against CAC rival Wesley College at 4 p.m. at the Battleground.
