The 16th ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team dropped a 9-7 decision to 10th ranked Salisbury University on Saturday in Capital Athletic Conference action at the Battleground. The Eagles fall to 5-3 on the season.

The Eagles reached the scoreboard first, as Kelsey Vincent scored on a free position shot with 25:19 left in the first half. The Sea Gulls answered with four straight scores, including a pair with a man up, to take a 4-1 advantage. UMW stemmed the tide as Sabrina Elliott scored unassisted with 1:15 remaining on the first half clock. The score stood at 4-2 at halftime.

Elliott then opened the second half with another score on a free position attempt with 27:30 left, and Vincent score done minute later unassisted to tie the score at 4-4. Salisbury answered with another run, scoring the next four goals to take an 8-4 advantage, with 20:36 remaining.

Freshman Paige Haskins scored for the home side with 17:50 left on a Mackenzie Maguire assist, and again with 11:41 to go unassisted. Julia Albert got the Eagles to within one, at 8-7, with 11:02 left, but the Sea Gulls would score the only tally the rest of the way in a 9-7 win.

Salisbury led in shots, 26-15, and in ground balls, 20-13. Each side had nine draw controls. Hanna Ashby had 12 saves in goal for the Eagles, and Maiah Bartlett and Ashby led with three ground balls each for UMW.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday when they host Wesley College in another CAC tilt starting at 4 p.m.
