#17 UMW Women's Lacrosse Tops Roanoke, 12-4, on Saturday

The 17th ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team jumped out to a 9-2 halftime advantage en route to a 12-4 victory on Saturday in Salem, Va.

The Eagles opened the scoring with a goal from Kelsey Vincent at 24:52 on a Sabrina Elliott assist. After Roanoke tied the score, UMW reeled off five in a row, and eight of the next nine before halftime.

Kate Smucker put UMW on top for good with 17:55 remaining, and Allison Davis added another with 15:31 left. Smucker scored on an assist from Emily Mott with 12:52 to go, and Vincent scored on a Mackenzie Maguire assist with 12:08 left.

Paige Haskins scored on a free position shot with 9:22 remaining, and after a Maroons tally, Smucker, Savannah Boyd, and Maguire all scored to put the Eagles up, 9-2, at halftime.

In the second, Roanoke scored eight minutes into play before Maguire scored on a free position shot. Vincent and Haskins scored before Roanoke capped the scoring in the final minutes.

Vincent and Smucker each scored three times to lead UMW. The Eagles led in shots, 28-17, and in draw controls, 10-5. Jacquelyn Albanese had eight saves in goal for the Eagles.

The Eagles will be back in action next Saturday when they host Salisbury University at 1 p.m. in a key early Capital Athletic Conference meeting.
