UMW's Holly Hudson Named CAC Women's Lax Player of the Week

YORK, Pa. -- Mary Washington sophomore Holly Hudson and Marymount sophomore Liah Agouras were tabbed as the CAC Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week for March 14, 2016.  

Offensive Player of the Week

Mary Washington sophomore Holly Hudson was named the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after registering nine goals and one assist in a pair of victories as the 16th-ranked Eagles improved to 8-0. Hudson netted five goals in a win over Randolph-Macon and added four goals and an assist in a triumph over Roanoke.

Defensive Player of the Week

Marymount sophomore Liah Agouras was named the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after tallying 11 ground balls and causing six turnovers in a 2-0 week for the Saints. Against Medaille, she posted a game-high five ground balls while causing two turnovers. She followed up that performance with game-highs of four caused turnovers and six ground balls in a CAC victory over Frostburg State. Agouras was a leader on a defensive squad that held the Bobcats from scoring in a 26-minute gap between the first and second half as the Saints pulled ahead. Agouras and the Saints' defense surrendered just 3.5 goals per game in the victories.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

In the IWLCA National Rankings, Salisbury is No. 7, York is No. 8, Mary Washington is No. 16 and Christopher Newport and St. Mary's are receiving votes ... Four teams are ranked in the Nike/Lacrosse Magazine Rankings, with Salisbury at No. 7, York at No. 8 and Mary Washington at No. 17 and St. Mary's at No. 18 ... Mary Washington (8-0) and St. Mary's (6-0) remain unbeaten in 2016 ... CNU's Meaghan Galvin led the Captains to a pair of double-digit victories with a team-high nine points. Against Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday, she registered six points, including her fourth hat-trick of the season during the 18-8 victory. On Saturday, she opened up CAC action with three more points, including two assists, during a 19-1 triumph over Wesley ... Frostburg State goalkeeper Dylan Teitelbaum stopped 11 shots against both McDaniel and Marymount ... Marymount is on a four-game winning streak for the first time since 2013. Abby Wescott totaled 11 points in the two victories last week, shattering her career high in assists with six against Medaille. In the CAC opener against Frostburg State, Wescott tallied her first hat trick of the season. Her seven assist week moves her total for the season to 17, good enough for the top spot in the league and tied for third in the country ... In St. Mary's only game of the week, Shelby Newman led the way with two goals on two shots and season-bests of three assists and five points. Newman helped out defensively as well with a season-high four ground balls and two caused turnovers in the 10-8 road win over Ursinus ... Salisbury went 1-1 in a pair of games against top-10 opponents, falling to No. 6 Gettysburg and defeating No. 8 York. Megan Wallenhorst two goals and four assists on the week, while Emma Wall posted four ground balls, three draw controls and two caused turnovers for the Sea Gulls ... Southern Virginia's Claire Houghtaling notched three goals and an assist in a 1-1 week for the Knights. She ranks fourth on the team in goals and assists, and third in points ... Wesley's Nyi Wright played a standout game for the Wolverines in their loss to CNU on Saturday, recording a team-high five caused turnovers and scooping up three ground balls ... York's Allison Kolacy had two goals and four assists in a 1-1 week for the Spartans that included a 10-3 win over Dickinson and a 8-6 defeat to No. 7 Salisbury. For the season, Kolacy has 14 points on six goals and a team-leading eight assists. Goalkeeper Rachel Donovan totaled 11 saves with a 5.50 goals against average during the Spartans' two contests.
