Maguire Named VaSID Women's Lax College Division Rookie of the Year; Moore Tabbed as Coach of the Year

LYNCHBURG, VA – Christopher Newport University's Meaghan Galvin earned the 2016 Virginia All-State College Division Women's Lacrosse Player of the Year Thursday, as voted on by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID). The University of Mary Washington captured the other two major awards, as Caitlin Moore nabbed Coach of the Year honors and Mackenzie Maguire was named the Rookie of the Year.

Galvin, a junior attack, earned second-team Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-American honors this spring. She was a first-team IWLCA All-Region and All-Capital Athletic Conference first-team selection and the 2016 CAC Co-Player of the Year. She led the CAC and set a new single-season program record with 82 draw controls and also ranked second in the conference in points (72) and was third in assists (33).

Moore led Mary Washington to a 15-5 record, and advanced to NCAA Division III Tournament's third round. Maguire, the 2016 CAC Rookie of the Year, led the Eagles with 46 goals and 58 points. The freshman attack earned first-team All-CAC and All-Chesapeake Region recognition.

A total of seven institutions were represented on the first-team; CNU, UMW, and Roanoke, Lynchburg, Ferrum, Randolph-Macon and Virginia Wesleyan Colleges. UMW and Christopher Newport had three student-athletes on the first-team while Washington & Lee University paced the second team with three players.
