Five UMW Women's Lax Players Named to 2016 IWLCA All-Chesapeake Region Team

The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team, ranked 16th in the nation and about to face Denison University in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at home on Sunday, has seen five players named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association's all-region teams, as announced Friday morning.

Junior defender Maiah Bartlett repeated as a first team selection, and was joined on the first team by sophomore defender Kirsten Littlefield and freshman attacker Mackenzie Maguire. Sophomore attacker Holly Hudson and junior midfielder Emily Mott were named to the second team.

Bartlett repeated as a first team selection after leading the Eagle defense, posting 26 ground balls and 20 caused turnovers, marking some of the top attackers in the region. Littlefield gained all-region honors for the first time after grabbing 35 ground balls and 51 draw controls, causing 28 turnovers and scoring two goals and one assist. Maguire, the CAC Rookie of the Year, led the Eagles with 43 goals and nine assists for 52 points.

Hudson gained all-region honors for the first time after scoring 39 goals and adding seven assists for 46 points. Mott gained all-region honors for the third straight year after scoring 16 goals and 18 assiststo go with 37 ground balls, 14 draw controls, and 22 caused turnovers.

These student-athletes are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-American teams, which will be announced on Wednesday May 18. The IWLCA will honor the National All-Americans at the IWLCA All-American banquet on Saturday June 4, 2016 at the Radisson Hotel Valley Forge in King of Prussia, PA.
